Free CAPM: Certified Associate in Project Management (PMI-100) Exam Questions and Answers

Certified Associate in Project Management (PMI-100) is one of the PMI tests covered here, sat under the code PMI-100. PMI uses no numeric exam codes — the acronym is the credential, and where it sits matters: a standalone acronym like PMP or CAPM marks the established flagship set, while a hyphenated one like PMI-ACP or PMI-RMP marks a specialism. Every credential requires documented education and experience before you may sit it, and PMI publishes no percentage pass mark for any exam.

Q1: How much does the CAPM exam cost?
A: As of October 2026, PMI lists the CAPM exam fee at $225 for PMI members and $300 for non-members, charged after your application is accepted. Individual PMI membership costs $139 a year, so joining first saves money on the exam.
Q2: How many questions are on the CAPM exam and how long is it?
A: The real exam has 150 questions, of which 135 are scored and 15 are unscored pretest questions placed at random, and you get 3 hours (180 minutes). There is one 10-minute break after you finish and review questions 1 to 75.
Q3: What types of questions are on the CAPM exam?
A: Most questions are multiple choice, but the exam also uses drag-and-drop matching, point-and-click hot spot questions and questions based on short animations or comic strips.
Q4: What are the CAPM eligibility requirements?
A: You need a secondary degree (high school diploma, GED or the global equivalent), to be at least 18 years old, and 23 contact hours of project management education completed before you sit the exam. There is no work experience requirement.
Q5: What are the CAPM exam domains and weightings?
A: Since the 2023 exam update the exam covers Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts 36%, Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies 17%, Agile Frameworks and Methodologies 20% and Business Analysis Frameworks 27%. As of October 2026 PMI has not announced a newer CAPM exam content outline.
Q6: How long is the CAPM certification valid and how do I renew it?
A: CAPM runs on a 3-year cycle and you renew by earning 15 professional development units (PDUs) in each cycle and paying a renewal fee. If you also hold the PMP, the 60 PDUs you earn for it count towards the CAPM as well, and an active CAPM waives the 35 training hours otherwise required for a PMP application.
Q7: Can I take the CAPM exam online, and in which languages?
A: The exam is delivered by Pearson VUE either at a test centre or as an online proctored exam, with online delivery unavailable to citizens of mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. As of October 2026 PMI lists the exam in English, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional).
Q8: What happens if I fail the CAPM exam?
A: You have a 1-year eligibility period in which you can take the exam up to three times, and retakes within that period are charged at a discounted re-examination fee. After three failed attempts you must wait 1 year from your last exam before you can reapply.
